Professional Experience

Grace Chen is a litigator whose practice focuses on complex business, real estate, and insurance disputes.  She has represented and counseled clients in a variety of matters, including breach of contract, insurance coverage, real property disputes, and intellectual property.  In addition to practicing in both federal and state courts, Ms. Chen has also practiced before the International Trade Commission.

Ms. Chen has been named a Southern California Rising Star by Los Angeles Magazine (2019 – 2020).

Significant Representations

  • Successfully represented major automobile manufacturing trading company in breach of contract, fraud, and conversion action against supplier to obtain jury verdict of over $19.6 million in damages (26th largest jury award in California in 2019, https://topverdict.com/lists/2019/california/top-50-verdicts)
  • Successfully defended owner of tour bus company against alter ego liability at arbitration in contract dispute, resulting in no liability and award of damages in favor of client
  • Represented well-known real estate developer in insurance coverage dispute with title insurer over undisclosed utility easement
  • Effectively defended trustee of multi-generational family trust against quiet title, breach of fiduciary duty, and partnership claims involving $17-million-dollar commercial property in civil and probate actions in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, successfully demurring to multiple iterations of the complaint and obtaining expungement of notice of lis pendens, ultimately resulting in favorable settlement
  • Obtained favorable settlement for national manufacturer and distributor of spices in trade dress infringement lawsuit, resulting in removal of competitors’ infringing trade dress packaging designs
  • Obtained favorable settlement for large real estate developer and operator involving large multi-million-dollar commercial property in quiet title action with protracted history of multi-party parcel swaps, grants of easements, and option rights in the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda
  • Secured settlement for national mortgage company to quiet title on property against borrower filing successive, fraudulent bankruptcies
  • Represented large footwear manufacturer in successfully defending against trade dress infringement at the International Trade Commission
  • Successfully represented manufacturer of aircraft passenger cabin interior products in multi-venue patent dispute in federal district court and the Patent and Trademark Appeal Board
  • Secured $100 million settlement for pharmaceutical manufacturer in patent infringement dispute
